Hello and welcome to the challenging experience of finding the best preschool and child care for your precious little one. As a fellow parent, I know how difficult this decision can be. You want your child to get the kind of care and individualized attention that they would if they were at home with you each day.
As Dorothy said in The Wizard of OZ while clicking her ruby slippers, “There’s no place like home.” And of course she’s right! However, at MunchkinLand PreSchool it is our goal to be as homelike as possible. In fact, our preschool is located in a charming historic brick home in old southwest Reno, just south of downtown! We pride ourselves on not being just a “daycare center.”
MunchkinLand is truly a preschool. We provide a warm and cozy atmosphere, and the welcoming arms of nurturing and professional preschool teachers coupled with low child to teacher ratios and lots of parent involvement. Put it all together with a child-centered and fun curriculum, add clean and safe classrooms, and you have the perfect preschool for your little munchkin!

For this reason, we plan lots of fun activities throughout the year for parents to attend! Some examples are our Halloween Costume Party, Mother’s Day Lunch, Father’s Day BBQ, Teddy Bear Picnic, Valentine’s Day Craft Time etc. We also encourage parents to share any special information, cultural traditions, or talents with the class.
In addition, we have an open-door policy, meaning parents are welcome and encouraged to join their child at any time throughout the day. Most importantly, we feel that parents and teachers need to have ongoing open lines of communication. Parents should feel free to talk to their child’s teacher at drop off or pick up time. We welcome any information that might help us better care for the needs of your child. Lastly, we are always available to schedule a conference for those matters that require further discussion.

At MunchkinLand Preschool, we are well aware that the first five years of a person's life are the most important in brain development. Therefore, we have designed our curriculum so that your children will grow and learn the most during that foundational period.
Our “Whole Child” Development Philosophy uses age appropriate and fun activities that promote physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development. We recognize that each child is unique and has different needs and interests.
We provide Hands-On Sensory experiences which help children understand concepts as we emphasize pre-reading skills and problem solving. Also with oral and written language. Cooperative learning enhances social skills, and our art projects focus on the process rather than the product. A small group instruction style is used to meet the individual needs of each child at our school. Being in such a nurturing and caring environment also gives each child the opportunity to develop a positive self-esteem. We believe that this positive feeling will last throughout their lives and build the foundation for higher learning.

At MunchkinLand Preschool it's our goal to promote healthy choices for our littles. This includes getting plenty of fresh air and outside time. We are scheduled outside for at least 2 hours each day, one hour in the am and one in the pm. While we often bring out chalk, bubbles, hula hoops or parachutes, this time is predominately unstructured and intended for children to play and explore however they wish. The playground offers climbing, a slide, tricycles with a path, and a playhouse for the children to enjoy.
We believe that most children may get plenty of screen time at home, therefore we do not do screen time at our school except for very rare occasions like a special pajamas, popcorn and movie day, or in cases of prolonged inclement weather.
Children bring their own lunchboxes and water bottles to school each day. We encourage healthy, kid-friendly foods that follow the recommended nutritional guidelines. Teachers sit at the tables with the children while they eat to role model table manners and assist with opening containers etc.
Our dance classes take place on Friday mornings here at our school, and are taught by the fabulous Miss Heidi! Children learn the foundational skills of all forms of dance in a fun and creative way. They have recitals every year complete with costumes.
Soccer Shots offers a fun, high-energy and engaging soccer program conveniently located her at our school on Thursday mornings! Soccer Shots sessions focus on skill introduction, and character development through exciting age appropriate curriculum.
